What's New?
Birthfest!
On June 15th from 11am-4pm I will be at the Portsmouth Olympic Harbour here in Kingston (Ontario) and I will be a vendor at Birthfest for the first time ever! I'm pretty excited! I have lots of images to offer for expecting moms, nurseries, kiddo's rooms among many others. They have a ton of exhibitors, vendors, and workshops! It really is a wonderful event to be a part of! Hope to see you there! :)
For more information you may visit the Birthfest website here.

A New Addition!
I'm having a baby!!!!! I'm a little late in posting this because, as most of you can imagine, preparing for a kiddo and making said kiddo takes a lot of your time and energy! I've still been trying to get as much work done as possible but it's been a little more difficult. This is our first baby and we found out that we're having a boy! So exciting! I'm due September 18 and I can't wait to meet the little guy! :) The picture I posted is the one I did to celebrate my pregnancy and announce to my friends and family and fans on Facebook! The original will stay with me but I have prints on the way and have also sent the image to my licensors!
2013 Artwork
I have a few new pieces in the gallery! I've update the gallery pages with all of my new work (as of February 18, 2013). There's LOTS to see and the new images are always closest to the bottom of each gallery page! (for those of you that have been here before and are just looking for the new stuff!) If you're interested in purchasing new work or keeping on top of the new stuff I have going on I would HIGHLY recommend becoming a fan on my Facebook Fan Page: Maigan Lynn. I sometimes have auctions right on my page as well as information as to where I've listed my newest pieces for sale and new prints and merchandise that are coming in. I try to update my website but sometimes I'm a little slow! (I have A LOT of projects! LOL!). Also, to be a part of the giveaways you should be a Fan to be entered anyhow so it's just a nice bonus! :)
Mugs at Indigo Art Service
I signed on to license some of my images at Indigo Art Services not that long ago and now they have some Mugs available for purchase with my artwork on them! Come take a peek! Also, ANY of my images can be put onto a mug for your shopping convenience, just let me know. I will also shortly be implementing a drop shipping option via my Etsy shop where you can place your order through me but the mugs/tiles/ceramic pendants etc. will be shipped straight from the company!
I made it to the Magic Kingdom!
I am 29 years old and have never really had a Disney vacation. So, my husband and I took the opportunity this past summer and went! He had never had a Disney vacation either. We had an absolute blast! I FINALLY made it to the castle, the one I had seen at the beginning of ALL the Disney movies from when I was just little! It was VERY hot but we still had a really good time. I would do it again in a heartbeat! :)
Fairy Tales can come true!
I have some new fairy tale pieces up in my gallery! All of the originals have sold but I do currently have prints of Red, Snow, Riddles and Rhymes, Rapunzel, Briar Rose, and Cinderella! I'm especially excited about Cinderella! She's one of my personal favorite fairy tale stories and she managed to come out exactly as I had wanted! Not sure who's next on the artists block but I'll keep you posted! :)
Check out the shop!
Hello my lovelies! :) The shop has now been updated. I spent a good majority of my time so far this weekend uploading things into the shop! YAY! SO, the 4x6" section is filled to the brim, the 8x10&8x12 section is filled to the brim, The Originals section is well stocked, the Bookmarks section has been stocked for a while, and the ACEO print section as well! It's not EVERYTHING but it's enough to get you started! :) The shopping cart is hosted through mals-e.com. It's nothing fancy but it's simple enough and it works. When you check out the payment will be processed through Paypal.com which is a secure third party payment processing service - I never see your credit card or banking info. The only thing they send me is the information you filled out for your address and email so I can send you your things! :) So what are you waiting for? Hop on over to the shop and take a look around! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me!
Image Use
Hello lovely friends! :) I've decided to post this note here on my website because I know there is quite a bit of confusion as to the protocol necessary when using images. Search engines are an extremely important and invaluable tool. However they usually tend to jumble a bunch of pictures together without proper visible and immediate credit to the owner leaving you to assume, if you didn't know any better, that they were there for anyone to use. So here are some tips to follow when you find an image you'd like to use (this falls true for art images, photographs, magazine clippings etc.)
1) Obtain permission - this is extremely important. As an artist, yes I do put my work out to the public but it does not mean I relinquish my rights to that image. Most artists have no problem with others using a watermarked version of their image as long as you follow ALL rules required.
2) Give credit to the artist/creator - in the event that you've contacted the artist for permission and are able to use the image in the capacity as discussed with the artist, it is usually also asked that you make visible a credit to the artist alongside the image. Each artist has their own requirements so be sure to ask about this when you're acquiring permission. Usually it's just a matter of including the artists name and a link to their website or shop. It's the polite thing to do when you're granted permission to use an image for free.
3) Do not alter the image - in any way unless you, again, have permission from the artist to do so. This includes cropping, removing watermarks, colour adjustments etc.
A few other important tid-bits:
Watermark - this is usually an image/name that is included with the image for display purposes to help protect the work form being stolen. If you notice on all of my images it will have my name and the year smeared all over it - I'm pretty diligent about protecting my work! :)
Copyright - these are the rights that belong solely to the creator of the art piece. This is what allows me to deem what is appropriate and inappropriate uses of my work, who has access to use the image, and in what capacity - for those of you who are parents, I am the legal guardian of my artwork, if you will. Copyright is automatically given to the artist as it is their idea and their work. You can also have your work legally covered under copyright for a fee and the additional security but the image and rights belong to the artist, regardless.
Stealing - When you use an image without prior consent from the artist it is considered stealing and it is a punishable criminal offence. I know this sounds scary but if you stick to the rules you won't have any problems.
Selling images - The only persons who are allowed to sell reproductions of the images or merchandise including these images on them are the artist/creator/copyright holder and any other person/company that has acquired a license to use these images in a specified contract with the artist/creator/copyright holder. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I've come across people selling images that weren't their own without permission from the artist which is stealing directly from the artists pocket. It's hard enough as it is to be an artist without having to worry about thievery.
All of this being said, what should you do if you happen to come across one of my images being used? Please contact me at maigan_lynn@hotmail.com or info@maiganlynnart.com! I will look into the issue and verify whether or not the person/company has permission to use my work or not and deal with them accordingly should it be the latter. These are legal issues that should only be dealt with between the artist and persons in question.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me! :)

Artists Corner Blog Interview
I was recently contacted by Sarah from the Artists Corner and was asked if I'd be interested in doing an interview with them. This blog is really cool! They feature artwork from artists who also have their work licensed as tube images. There's all kinds of artists to learn about. You can check out my interview HERE!
